Here’s my Tip of the Week: Summer is in full swing with traveling, swimming, hiking, biking and just being outside. So, this week I have prepared a set of tips for taking care of the kiddos hair.
Tip 1: Use a good product for hair health. Remember, they are maturing and so is their hair.
Tip 2: Make sure that your child is scrubbing their scalp to ensure dirt and sweat don’t build up and clog the pores. Teach them to scrub gently and to rinse completely. This will prevent residue from building up on the scalp.
Tip 3: Prior to swimming have the kids run conditioner through damp hair to prevent the chlorine from penetrating their hair. Directly after the swim have them use a clarifying shampoo or baking soda, which is my favorite. Every now and then, use a deep professional conditioning treatment as well to build strength.
Tip 4: Refrain from using hair ties and pulling back the hair to minimize breakage. If you must pull back, then select a good hair tie.
Tip 5: Teach the kids how to brush their hair starting at the bottom and moving towards the top. A professional wide tooth comb works best to minimize tangling and pulling.
Tip 6: Refrain from any over the counter lightening products this can be very damaging to the hair. These are very damaging.
Tip 7: Use a hat on your child for even more protection.
Tip 8: This one is the most important, enjoy your summer with the kiddos!
