After the Holidays are over it’s very normal to feel like you are coming down from the high excitement of parties, families and all the activities that go with the season. We are tired and sometimes it feels like it’s all we can do to get our “Mojo” back.

However, truth be known, it doesn’t take much time to get back in the swing of things if you just take a little bit of time to regroup.

Even though we may all be tired, it seems like everyone is still ready to take on the New Year. By this I mean, they are seeking and in some cases, starving, for change. Change is often desired on multiple levels including work, relationships and personally.

Working in the beauty industry, I believe it’s a great time to go for changing or updating your appearance. Remember, you are your own best advertisement. Your appearance will set the tone for how you feel and what you want to communicate about yourself personally and professionally.

Maybe consider going with a new cut and color to generate a sense of confidence. Along with the great self-assurance a new look can provide, you may also be secretly inspiring others to try something different. That’s an extra added benefit when working with clients in the beauty industry.

Trust me, when you feel good about yourself it will show in the way you look, the way you interact with others, and the way you carry yourself. It will also spill over into your attitude which will have a positive effect on your business.

I believe that it’s imperative to have a good appearance to ensure success when building your business and clientele, regardless of the industry you are in. When I refer to appearance, I mean this in a very broad way that encompasses much more than your physical looks.

For example, don’t bring your problems to work with you. Remember your client’s time is for you to listen. I realize a lot of us have long time clients. I’ve had some clients for 30 years and, of course, they know what is going on in my life. That’s fine. It’s all part of the relationship. But try to limit how much you talk about yourself. Remember this is about updating your appearance and that includes a fresh positive attitude complete with attentiveness.

On the same token, consider updating your suite, salon or work space. This is a great item to include on the docket if you want to improve your professional look. Maybe add a splash of color here or there. Bring in some new accessories to create a new and improved feel. Simple things can be very refreshing. Remember, when you love your work environment and take care of your surroundings, your clients will recognize that you have pride in your business.

It’s a New Year, it’s time to get excited! So let’s get started with the changes and goals you have set for yourself.
