I just did an article on keeping your mind fresh by staying current in the industry through tapping into education. I also think that this stands true with your work place. It’s interesting what a paint color or a simple minor decor change can do for your mood, your energy, and to create a sense of excitement.
I will never forget my first home. I had never had the opportunity before to make a space truly my own and I was excited to get started. I decided that I would get started by painting some walls with bold colors. I couldn’t believe how this experience changed the way I felt about the house as well as specific rooms that I focused on.
First, it was fun being able to express myself in this way. Secondly, I noticed that each room that I painted would take on its own aura. The colors that I selected actually invoked various feelings for me with their own specific traits. While the color in one room might make me feel energetic, the next room might have a color that made me feel relaxed and soothed.
It was amazing to me how a simple coat of paint and a few decorations could create a distinct ambiance. I even noticed that, depending on my mood, I would select a specific room that I wanted to spend time in.
I know that many of us have been in the industry for years. We have a set way of doing things. We are accustom to our surroundings and the status quo, plus, we are juggling family, work and all of life’s responsibilities. We feel tired at the end of the work day. So, who has time to change up their work space?
Now let’s go back to what I said about how things make you feel. Have you ever considered that if you change up some details of your work space that you might be surprised at how energized you remain throughout the day.
I am not saying that you aren’t ever going to get tired. However, you never know if that bright yellow might make you feel more cheerful or that soft teal can work to reduce your stress level throughout the day.
How about having pictures or art on your walls that remind you of something you love. Maybe they take you to a memory or vision of a happy place or happy time in your life.
Remember, sometimes as we grow as people these visions and memories can change, so with the changes, we sometimes need to update. I encourage you to look around your work space, ask yourself if it’s reflective of where you want to be today? If not or if you simply have a need to feel reinvigorated, make a change and update. You will feel better for it and your clients are sure to feel good experiencing your new surroundings, too!0
