Summer is the best. With warm winds, comfortable apparel and all the relaxation that the season brings. And, though we know that fall is just around the corner, none of us are ready to shift our focus to sweaters and blue jeans just yet.
Since we are still in the mindset of taking in every minute of summer, we want our look to reflect this. This includes our hairstyle. So, how do we keep that sun kissed look just a little longer without our hair appearing dry after 3 months of sun exposure?
First, make sure to keep up with trims if you are looking to ensure hair health. Trims are important when it comes to preventing fly-aways and removing split ends. Trims also contribute to maintaining the lines of your hairstyle. While this might not seem that important as you are taking dips in the pool, you will be glad you took time to visit your stylist periodically when fall rolls around.
Second, select a good line of professional products. Preferably you will want a shampoo that is sulfate free and has the ability to protect your hair if it’s colored. I recommend the BioGen Complex line By Gina. This is a line of shampoo and conditioner that provides a nourishing blend of biotin, collagen and wheat proteins. It’s also packed with the B vitamins. These ingredients work to transform dry and brittle hair to super soft and supple.
Another simple way to protect your hair is to cover it. There are many stylish options such as hats, scarves and bandanas. However, even with a hat, I always recommend taking the extra step and using a UV protectant product. I like Aveda’s Sun Care Protective Hair Veil. This product comes in an easy to apply mist and last for 16-hours. Plus, it’s water resistant so, make sure to take it pool side. Fe
Next, minimize your styling time as much as possible in the summer. This is important since you are already, most likely, exposing your hair to additional heat. Focus on looks that require minimal use of hot tools. Consider allowing your hair to dry naturally. There are several products on the market that enhance waves and curls. I suggest embracing natural waves and curls during the summer.
For most of us, it’s not realistic for us to simply avoid hot tools completely. So, make sure you are using tools that are designed to promote healthy hair. I recommend products that utilize Infrared Smart technology. This technology infuses each hair strand with micro-moisture particles, locking the moisture in, to prevent the damaging effects of traditional high heat tools. By Gina provides an amazing professional line featuring infrared technology that includes blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons and styling tools. Even better, the blow dryer literally cuts drying time in half which contributes to reducing styling time and heat exposure.
Finally, consider using a weekly hydrating mask on your hair. I recommend washing your hair and then, toweling it dry. Next, apply the mask and wrap your hair in a warm towel. This will open the cuticle of the hair and allow the mask to penetrate the hair at a deeper level. Leave the mask on your hair for 5-10 minutes and then rinse and condition as normal.
Take these steps and you are sure to be fall ready. Remember, football season is just around the corner and you’ll want to look amazing in those beautiful fall colors.
