Lost your stylist? Check the local Phenix Salon Suites.
At least a dozen times, David and Pamela McCune, managing partners of the Grapevine Phenix Salon Suites franchise in Texas, have gotten calls or emails from bewildered clients attempting to track-down their beloved stylists.
Leaving a salon can be an intimidating experience, said Pamela McCune. This would never be the case at her Phenix Salon Suites, she said, but some salons pressure stylists to stay, insisting that they’ll never make it on their own without the salon. They make it difficult if not impossible for them to notify clients about their move. If the salon knew that they were planning to leave they would be fired. Those who do leave are not allowed back on the property.
In stark contrast, Pamela once cheerfully helped a client find her stylist after she left her Phenix Salon Suites in Grapevine. “You build people up, you don’t burn bridges,” she said.
Another stylist overheard Pamela’s conversation in the hallway, stuck her head out the suite door and said, “As long as I’ve been a stylist, I have never heard anyone say that before.”
The McCunes opened their Grapevine location the first of July 2012. They overcame several small issues as all new business do, and some not so small. Texas is famous for its summer heat. As air conditioners had to be replaced they juggled rooms, fans and once they had to bring in portable AC units that resembled large creatures with accordion arms to keep the facility cool until the new unit was installed. Now each tenant has a state-of-the-art climate control system with thermostats in each suite. They even had issues with their WIFI/Internet service when they first opened, but now they have a high-speed commercial WIFI/Internet service with more then enough power to service the salon. The McCune’s feel like they have turned a corner at their Grapevine location and are enjoying the fruits of their labor.
Pamela said, when her mother passed away the stylists at their Grapevine location sent her a large floral arrangement. “They sent me the most incredible arrangement.”
There are inevitable complaints and even confrontations, said Pamela, when it’s all said and done, “I’ll give them a hug and thank them for bringing it to my attention.”
The McCunes believe the salon professionals prize their businesses just as much as the McCunes do their own, “so we listen to hear what they have to say and help as we can … We love them all and appreciate what they each bring to Phenix making the Grapevine location so special” McCune said.
“We serve them,” said McCune, “They are our clients. They serve their clients. Everybody wins.”
