I could not be more excited about the hair colors that are trending this fall. As a hairdresser this is the perfect opportunity to get in touch with your inner artist.

Before you start applying color, it’s important that your hair is strong and ready to go. So, begin by putting in the time up front to get the hair back into shape. It’s no secret that summer heat and exposure to chlorine can be hard on the hair.

Begin with a clarifying shampoo that is designed to remove build up. Next, invest in a good hydrating conditioner. I also encourage using a hydrating mask at least once a week. By taking these steps, your color will take more evenly, be richer, and last longer. This is especially true for dark colors.

Speaking of color, this fall there’s no limit regarding the shades and palettes that are acceptable. So, now that you have prepared your hair, it’s time to make a color selection. Many shades are relevant this season. Everything from dark rich browns to icy platinums and neon colors. This even includes shades of greens, yellows, and pinks.

Beautiful warm coppery reds, lilac, and dark rich browns, are also trending. The darker shades are even showing up with surprise pieces of a very light grey and blue which makes the styles all the more appealing.

In my opinion, another exciting item is the fact that anyone can pull off these colors as long as their skin tone is taken into consideration. A consultation with a stylist will go a long way to ensure the proper shade is selected. So, go ahead, flirt with a color change this season. After all, fall is in the hair!
