May seems to always be ushered in with sunshine and fun. However, there’s one thing you can rely on, the wedding season will be escorted in right along with it. And, arriving simultaneously with our wedding guests are the prom attendees! This is the season in which our industry thrives as it offers the perfect platform for expression and artistry.
It’s the time of year for updos, top knots, braids, twist, chignons, pony tails and more. However, that’s not all, you’re also welcoming in the use of beads, pearls, flowers, and hair combs with bling. All of these items can be placed beautifully in the hair. Now don’t think for a minute that I am failing to mention headbands and tiaras. They’re a must during this busy time. Even better, nowadays all of these amazing items can be mixed with looks that we already love. I am talking anything from slight waves to tight curls or finger waves.
The fun in this season is that, with the guidance of your stylist, you can incorporate each and every one of these looks into one amazing masterpiece. Remember, a stylist is skilled in helping you to create a look that you desire by complimenting your hair with accessories. Just make sure you are communicating what you want.
Here are some helpful hints that will assist you in planning for whatever big day is on your agenda. These hints will also help your hairstylist when she is working with you on creating that perfect look. Let’s start with images. Pictures from magazines, TV shows, social media, award shows and movies can be a great resource for everything from traditional to trendy looks. I have always found it helpful when my clients bring pictures of what they like as well as what they don’t like.
Sometimes it may be that you just like part of a style. Believe me, it happens. Having a photo to share with your stylist is like providing them a road map. It’s a good idea especially if you’ve not gone there before. A good consultation before the big day is also highly recommended. This detail will serve to reduce added stress because you and your stylist will be on the same page. Remember, when the big day rolls around you are usually on a schedule, and so is the stylist.
Consultations is a time when your stylist will tell you how to prepare your hair for your appointment. Some looks may require your hair to be freshly washed while others may require second day hair. Also, don’t be afraid to look at old pictures and to get away from mainstream style. Being around the salon my whole life and seeing different generations of hairstyles in old pictures, it’s amazing at how gorgeous some of the old nostalgic looks can be. Remember, the look that you cannot picture yourself wearing just might be the look that designates you as the Bell of the Ball.
